Your dream job just a custom message away.
DNA, Bangalore, December 17, 2008
If you've been cribbing about your boss on your Facebook post and you're looking for a job change, here's a spoiler. An increasing number of potential employers are accessing such profiles - and using them to decide whom they hire.
Take the case of Ashok Neelakanta. The COO of i-Vista Digital Solutions Ltd on Airport Road recently hired four copywriters for his company and the custom message mapping exercise on Facebook and GTalk helped him get the right people.
"Whenever you put up a status message, people react. Say if I put up a message saying I feel angry, people reply back. I just used the idea to find myself some people."
According to Neelakanta, this process of hiring staff saved him a lot of time. "If we place an ad in a newspaper or a recruitment website, we will get CVs but we have to go through a lot of filtering. But thanks to Facebook, this initial filtering was already done for us.
The internet has become an accepted part of everyday life and for an internet marketing company we need someone who is internet savvy.' This also was a big money saver for i-Vista. "If I had to use the services of a placement agency, I am looking at spending between 8.5%-11.33% of the final CTC (Cost to client) as fees to them. If I hired someone at Rs. 6 lakhs per annum and had to pay a 10% fee, I would end up spending about 60,000. This process alone has saved me about Rs. 2 lakhs."
